It's a Plot

Machines always know when you are leaving town and the BIG moving van comes next Monday.

Sooooooo Windows got its knickers in a twist and went bazonkers yesterday while I was doing a full system backup in anticipation of the move.

Then as the backup failed half way through the process, I know have a computer with about half it's original files and am connecting by dial up. It's a brutal way to clear out your OE mailbox.

I'm waiting for telepathy to improve - no more of the circuits and software snafus.

Embroidered Bookbindings

The British Library has been working on a database of bookbindings in their collections and had made it available for view in the rare books reading room. Now it is available to everyone on their site. It has remarkable images and precise descriptions.

To find all the embroidered bindings just do a little search on "embroidered" once you click through on the link.

They even have an excellent image of a cover replicated beautifully by one of my students/friends Sharon. The late king would have been pleased with her rendition, but I know she wishes the image had been online earlier.

Watercolor Mania

Watercolor Mania is Jane Freeman's blog about her adventures in her chosen medium. I always look at paintings to see how well an artist deals with textiles and lace. Jane shares her approach to painting lace and posts a stunning example.

Prizes from Piecework

I got a heads up from the marketing folks at Interweave Press - Piecework and it seems they are having a big giveaway contest for some rather nice prizes including some models stitched for past issues.

I wasn't tempted because the LAST thing I need right now is more stuff - but other folks might want to give it a try.

Nice Film Folks

I've not seen any of their films but I had a nice conversation with Mary at Paladine Communications.

They wanted a bit of advice on embroidery tools for their new production on Washington. It's especially nice that a producer takes the time to try to get it "right." How many embroidery clinkers have we seen in films?

packing, packing, packing

We're down to the wire here on the packing project. Doing one of the hardest parts - needlework and art books.

So if I'm kinda scarce around the blogging universe, it's because I'm working so hard at getting ready for the move which is now scheduled for the last week in August.

Rapunzeloff-loom beadwork

Rapunzeloff-loom beadwork

This beader's work appeals to me. Elegant and whimsical at the same time. Wish I was a Japanese speaker/reader. However, the graphics speak well for themselves.
