Oops, More Work Required

Well, I've gotten out my last stitching project and I'll soon have the model for the Four Letter Word Sampler finished.

HOWEVER, I've realized nobody will buy it without all the associated alphabet charts. These alphabet freaks are funny that way. So it's back to get all the complete alphabets designed/charted and get the whole project into booklet form.

When in Doubt, Take a Nap

Now that I can do more things (but not much mind you), it has become frustrating to not be interested in doing anything within my physical limits. Have YOU noticed how mind-numbing daytime TV is?

Libby brought me a box of DVD's of the very best kind when I first hit the ground but I'm just now getting able to concentrate on watching them. Finished up I Claudius. I adore Derek Jacobi but I'm less able to tolerate the bloodthirstyness of the plots this time around. On the other hand I kept looking at the costumes thinking they did a pretty good job on them and I was fascinated with the dingly bobs the women had stuck in their hair.

Next it was on the first season of Campion. I did better with Lug's accent this time. I've had a little more time in England now with accents that sound, well at best almost English. Again the women's costumes were a treat. All the lovely flowery nice lady dresses with ruffles and ruchings set off by appropriate complexions and period hairstyles.

What next - entire series of Upstairs Downstairs.

Oh, and what to do when you don't want to do anything you CAN do. Take a nap. It is decadent, indulgent and gives the complaint department of your brain a good mucking out.

Thanks for all the good wishes folks - much appreciated.

Not Dead Yet!!

But just beginning to come back to the world of the marginally capable.

I think nattering on about one's illnesses is VERY boring so here's the short synopsis - skip if you like.

Had back and leg twinges a few weeks before the CATS Show in Burbank. Early April.

Made it through first day of the CATS show and then collapsed in pain and partial paralysis. April 14

Lay in bed for 3 weeks unable to wiggle left toes or lift left leg off bed. Did stumble to bathroom occasionally.

After 3 weeks gained enough movement in left leg to pick it up 3 inches or so and take a shower. Well, heck a little dirt never killed anyone unless they had an open wound.

Then managed for a few weeks to make it to kitchen and bathroom a few times a day but medicine caused nasty side effects so it required at least an hour to recover from each move from room to room.

After about 5 weeks could walk to my inside mailbox every few days and as of yesterday managed to make it to the apartment laundry room.

Just need to get a bit of stamina back but this is the first day I've really had the strength to accomplish more than the bare necessities of activities of daily living.

Oh, and I felt so miserable I didn't get a bit of designing or stitching done during this time. Let's not do this again, thank you very much.

Color Theory

Color Theory

Thought you knew your color wheel? Have another look beyond the static wheel that usually gets shoved at us. The Brown University site was created by a computer science project for use in a studio foundation course. It leads one through an understanding of color, a look at our attempts to quantify and qualify color and color systems and applets that let you try out color mixing and fiddling about to better understand the concepts set forth in the text.

Watch Out What You Wish For

How many times have I wished "oh I'd just like to be at home and not go to the dratted day job"?

Well, I've not done that for just about 12 days or so now. 12 days at home. Bliss you say! NOT!

Still knocked down with a stubborn case of sciatica. Getting better but the progress is about comparable to putting 5 stitches a day in one of Teresa W's huge designs - doesn't look like much. Patience is not one of my qualities in big supply.

Still, I'm getting a bit of stitching done and Libby is coming in tomorrow to get stuff in the mail, do the banking I can't do online, etc.

Mostly working on a little sampler of four letter words (all of them good words) using Dinky Dyes. I'll try to post a progress scan tomorrow.
